Yarden

$10.00

Yarden (pronounced yar-dén) is a lace and stockinette stitch shawl that gets its wavy lines from increases and decreases in the lace sections. It begins with a garter stitch tab and is worked from the top down making it an easy shawl to enlarge by working additional repeats of the lace and stockinette stitch stripes. The pattern includes instructions for both fingering and sport weight yarns, but you could work this in any weight yarn. In some ways Yarden is a blank slate that you can customize by your yarn and color choices. The test knitters were very creative. One tester used alpaca for the stockinette sections and Tosh Merino Light for the lace giving her both color and textural contrast. Another tester used two contrast colors to knit stripes within the stockinette sections which added lots of visual interest. You could knit each stockinette stripe in a different color or try a variegated yarn. If you want to play up the stitch pattern, you could make it in one color. I hope you’ll have fun with Yarden as you make it your own!

Please note that if you want to block the shawl with points, you will need to do a stretchy bind off.

SIZE:
Fingering yarn (DK yarn)

BLOCKED MEASUREMENTS:
Neck edge width: approximately 58” (56”)
Center depth: approximately 24” (21”)
(Some knitters have been unable to get the dimensions above. More yardage will allow you to work additional repeats of the 22 pattern rows.)

RECOMMENDED YARN:
Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light – 1 skein each of MC and CC
Madelinetosh Pashmina – 1 skein each of MC and CC
Actual yardage used was approximately 420 (340) yards MC and 210 (165) yards CC. If you use TML, a second skein or additional yardage in the MC would give you a cushion that might be needed. Yarden could also be made all in one color.

Pattern is charted.

Pictured in Pashmina in Silver Fox and French Gray and modelled by Yarden Batson.
