Nikola Tesla is responsible for discovering alternating current, in which the flow of energy periodically reverses direction.  The swirling border reverses direction halfway through, creating a symmetrical flow to the edging.

Worked all in one piece, the stockinette body is worked “top-down” and the border worked sideways along the length of the body, connecting to the body as it is worked so that the resulting shawl involves minimal bind-off and no seaming!
