Southern Blue

$9.80

This top-down crescent shaped shawl combines Estonian lace stitches with intertwining cables to produce an eye-catching shawl a little different from the rest. Intertwining cables and eyelets depict butterflies, while nupp flowers interspersed through the twisting cable motif reflect a pretty garden cascading over a trellis. A picot bind off adds a dramatic flourish to the bottom edge.

No row is repeated, so you are never bored and the edges grow dramatically due to extra increases. The Southern Blue is a species of NZ butterfly that sports a similar blue-grey colour scheme to this beautiful yarn. Knit in Kiwi Fingering, this shawl has a little more substance than a laceweight shawl, but fortunately Zealana produce this lovely colour in Kiwi Laceweight, should you wish to knit something more ethereal in appearance.

(Note, while the yarn is listed in the Ravelry database as sport/five ply, Zealana label it a fingering/4ply weight yarn – if you wish to substitute yarn, select a 4 ply.)

All instructions are for the Fingering weight (4ply) version. Additional instructions are provided to achieve a larger shawl, or if you wish to use a laceweight yarn.
