The Arts & Crafts movement of the late 19th century found its muse in the beautiful and enigmatic Jane Morris. If she were around today, I expect that this sweater – relaxed, sexy, stylish and unique – is what she’d be wearing.

Pattern Note: Many lace patterns are traditionally worked on both right and wrong sides to achieve their beautiful results. Jane Morris is such a lace pattern. But for some of my lovely test knitters the traditional method proved unwieldy, so I found an alternative way to achieve nearly identical results by working lace stitches on just the right side of the fabric. This pattern presents both methods – traditional and new – for you to choose from.

Construction: Sweater is knitted flat from the top down in one piece. Beginning with a provisional cast-on at the neckline, front and back are worked separately. Sleeves are picked up and knitted flat (although they could be modified to knit in the round). Sweater sides and sleeves are seamed.

Sizes: XS (S, M, L, XL, XXL) recommended for chest sizes: 28-32 (33-37, 38-42, 43-47, 48- 52, 53-57)“. For wearers whose shoulders are narrower or arms shorter than is standard for your chest size, make a size or two smaller. Shown in size S.
