Diamonds and Rust

This design was inspired by a hit song written in 1974 by Joan Baez about her ill-fated relationship with Bob Dylan. The lyrics were prompted by an unexpected phone call that brought back memories of a time a decade earlier in Greenwich Village, contrasting the best of times – the ‘diamonds’ – with the heartbreak of the end of the relationship – the ‘rust’.

Three mosaic stitch patterns, separated by bands of stockinette stitch, form the pattern. Note that there is a different gauge for stockinette: 28 sts x 40 rows = 4”/10cm.

The wrap can easily be made wider by increasing the number of stockinette rows worked in the lighter color (and there is plenty of that yarn left over).
