Look, I have difficulties with self restraint. I think that’s pretty clear. If something trips the ‘oh isn’t that cute!’ sensor in my brain, I just get stuck for a while.
This isn’t exactly a problem (I mean, how can you call something this small and this cute a problem?). But it does occasionally lead to small obsessions.
And this time it landed me with three perfect little ornaments. Each one takes only a couple dozen yards of yarn and an hour or two to knit. They all use nifty slip stitch patterns (so you only ever have to use one yarn per row), and they’re all topped with the most perfect tassels (which yes, of course, the pattern tells you exactly how to make).
They’ll be adorable on your tree or on presents or as party favors for a holiday party (you know, when we can safely do those again). Or, if you’re the industrious, motivated, alarmingly organized sort who makes ornaments every year for the kids or grandkids or book club or whoever else is in your life, these will give you lots of options to make something special for everyone.
Oh, and just in case maybe you’ve got someone you’re missing this year, someone you can’t see in person but want to send a little something special to, I’ve got you covered.
At the end of the pattern you’ll find a page with cards you can print. Knit a little hat, print a card, write a note on the back, pop everything in an envelope, and send something sweet in the mail (check with your local post office, but in the U.S. you’ll probably need an extra stamp or two).
The cards are designed to print on those nifty postcard sheets you can find online or at most office supply stores. You want the ones where you have 4 postcards per sheet of paper. I’ve linked you to some in the pattern, but they’re really easy to find (just search for ‘4 up postcards’). Or, if you have some nice heavy cardstock and either a paper cutter or a steady hand, you can totally just print them on that and cut the paper into quarters.
The pattern includes it all…all three mini hat patterns plus detailedinstructions on how to make either twisted cord or tassels to hang them with (yes, they’re optional, but my goodness are they cute), plus printouts in case you want to send someone a bit of good cheer in the mail.
