We’ve lived in several states over the years, spending many years in the snow country of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. In 1989 we moved to mid–Michigan with 2 Briards. Shortly thereafter, we added a cat and a Newfoundland. With 3 longhaired dogs, I felt I should do something with all that dog hair, so, knowing nothing about fiber or spinning or anything, I made a drop spindle and started spinning dog hair to knit a “dog wool vest”. Then I saw me first alpaca and it was love at first sight. I traded the dog hair for alpaca, the drop spindle for a wheel, and as they say, “The rest is history” – Aurora Alpacas was born. We now have alpacas in many colors of the fabulous alpaca rainbow.

I have been knitting for more years than I care to count and I have been spinning for over 10 years now. Having my stash on 4 feet in the back yard, I spin mostly alpaca. Spinning some of my first, black alpaca inspired me to try me hand at designing lace in 1998. Lace has become my passion. I love the challenge of designing a unique, elegant shawl that makes the most of the wonderful alpaca fiber. I currently design for the Alpaca With a Twist yarn company and teach lace knitting. Its lots more fun than working in the ‘real world”

Never satisfied with the traditional, my designs are born from “How can I …?“ With a love of dragons, this led to the ‘Heere Be Dragone’ Shawl. That was such fun – I had to try a Pegasus. He became “Flight of Fantasy” Now lets see- how can I do an oriental dragon, a unicorn, a …? To many ideas – not enough time.
